We’re having great fun in our Interactive Media team adopting obsolete and unusual words from the Oxford English Dictionary's interactive words wall, an online campaign that has been around for some time.
In their own words ‘Each year hundreds of words are dropped from the English language. Old words, wise words, hard-working words. Words that once led meaningful lives now lie unused, unloved and unwanted. “
You have the opportunity to save these words.
To save them you need to “find room for them again in conversation and written communication. Each time you use one of these words, you are keeping it alive in the English language”
So go adopt-a-word from www.savethewords.org
This is a fantastic and engaging concept which has had our team adopting words such as frutescent, jobler and mingent. Expect to see these words find their way in to our team’s conversations.
The one criticism is that this concept promises so much but fails to deliver a more social experience. My inbox is full of conversations on who adopted which word and crazily constructed sentences which use one or multiple newly adopted words; the words have even found their way in to a colleague’s birthday card. If only the concept had integrated social tools to support such social activity. It's frustrating that I can’t even copy & paste the fantastic descriptions in to Twitter as it’s all in Flash!
Imagine how viral it could have been - gees, the fact it's been around for nearly 2 years and we've only just stumbled upon it speaks volumes.
A great idea which should have been even better.
Earn up to $3500/month just by taking simple surveys online!
I tried one of those online survey sites about 4 months ago that
say all you have to do is spend a couple of minutes filling out
some surveys and you will be making hundreds a day..... YEAH RIGHT, I didn't make anything.
I joined 7 of these stupid websites and I actually tried filling
out a couple of surveys on each site and they took forever then at
the end they wanted me to buy things or I couldn't complete the
survey.
These are complete scams so be aware!!! I couldn't believe they
were even allowed to sell such bogus products.
Then about 2 weeks ago I was watching the news and they had some
vice presidents and marketing managers of some major multi million
dollar companies talking about a site that they personally work
with to pay consumers for their opinion, A site that actually just
wants the "average Joe's" honest opinion on products and services
and is willing to pay big money to get them. for more information
